Hello all! This is the Dorset Sea Salt Company’s blog where we’ll keep you up to date with all the latest news related to our products as well as a bunch of other quips of information such as new stockists.
Our first post however is going to give you a better understanding of our journey in just how the Dorset Sea Salt Company came in to being. The idea came about after our founder Jethro Tennant graduated from university and was unsure about exactly what route he wanted to take his career path. It was during this time that Jethro discovered the natural salt pans on the east wearers of his native Portland. Upon further research and immersing himself in the history of salt harvesting on the isle of Portland, he quickly became astonished that this historic and once thriving industry had disappeared.
With such a big part of the cultural make up vanishing from the isle, we quickly began to envisage reviving Portland’s salt harvesting history and it was at this point that the Dorset Sea Salt Company was born.
In using small amounts of the fresh water from the Jurassic Coast, hobby harvesting for family and friends began. The potential for developing a business however was evident but in order to fund our ambitions, we approached the Princes Trust, a charity specifically designed to helping enrich the lives of young people. Their Enterprise Programme offers support for 18 to 30’s looking to start their own business, helping thousands of budding young entrepreneurs start their own business. With the financial support of the Princes Trust, the Dorset Sea Salt Company enjoyed incredible growth since it was first conceptualised 16 months ago.
We’re now able offer our salt not just right here on our website but also various stockists across Dorset as well as further afield. So stay tuned for more blog posts and if you aren’t already, make sure you follow us on Social media to check out what we’re up to!
